A New Chapter for Our School: Capital Collegiate Preparatory Academy Is Now Capital City Sports Academy

Graphic overlay with "IN THE NEWS" on a newspaper background.

A new name, a renewed vision, and a new school leader for the 2026–27 school year.

Capital Collegiate Preparatory Academy is now Capital City Sports Academy.

As we begin this new chapter, our school will launch with a new name, a renewed vision, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Our focus will center on delivering strong academics, building a culture of high expectations, and expanding opportunities through competitive athletics — providing students with an exceptional educational experience both inside and outside the classroom.

We remain the same tuition-free public charter school, in the same building at 1414 Gault Street in Columbus, serving the same kindergarten through 8th grade families we have always been privileged to serve. What has changed is the experience we are able to offer every child who walks through our doors.
None of it would be possible without our families. The patience, partnership, and encouragement shown by our families throughout this process have meant a great deal to us, and that support is the foundation everything ahead is built upon.

A Renewed Vision

Strong Academics

Academic excellence remains the center of everything we do. Every student at Capital City Sports Academy will receive a double dose of reading and math each day, taught in small groups at each child's individual level. Free tutoring and academic support are available to every family, and social-emotional learning is woven into the core of our program rather than added alongside it.

Each spring, our students will take part in The Blitz™, an award-winning academic program.  During the eight weeks leading up to the Ohio State Test, students compete in review games and academic pep rallies designed to build confidence, celebrate effort, and reward excellence. It is a program that treats academic achievement with the same energy and school-wide pride that athletics have always enjoyed.

A Culture of High Expectations

High expectations are not a slogan at Capital City Sports Academy. They are a daily practice.

Character, leadership, and teamwork are taught deliberately and reinforced consistently, supported by a positive school culture program and on-site counseling and emotional support through NYAP. We expect a great deal of our students because we believe a great deal of them — and we intend to give them every support required to meet that standard.

Expanded Opportunity Through Competitive Athletics

Athletics at Capital City Sports Academy are part of the school day rather than an after-school privilege. That single decision removes the barriers — work schedules, transportation, cost — that keep so many capable children from ever setting foot on a team.

Students will compete in basketball, soccer, volleyball, cheerleading, and flag football. Every student participates, regardless of prior experience. Every student makes the team.

The discipline, resilience, and accountability our students build in competition are the same qualities that serve them in the classroom, and in every chapter of life that follows.

Welcoming Our New School Leader

We are also excited to welcome Courtney Fails as our new school leader.

Courtney brings a passion for student achievement, strong instructional leadership, and a deep commitment to building meaningful relationships with students, families, and the community. Under her leadership, we are confident our school will continue to grow and thrive.

Ms. Fails will be reaching out to families directly to introduce herself and share the exciting plans that we have for the 2026–27 school year.

What Remains the Same

For current families, the most important question is what this means for their child. The essentials are unchanged:

  • The same building. 1414 Gault Street, Columbus, OH 43205.
  • The same grades. Kindergarten through 8th grade.
  • The same cost. None. Capital City Sports Academy remains a tuition-free public charter school.
  • Every child's place. Students enrolled at Capital Collegiate Preparatory Academy are enrolled at Capital City Sports Academy. There is no need to re-apply.
  • The same support. Free breakfast and lunch, free transportation, free tutoring, and free after-school care all continue.

Our school did not close, did not merge, and did not move. The name changed because what we are able to offer has changed, and the previous name no longer reflected the school our students will walk into this fall.

Looking Ahead

This next chapter represents more than continuing to serve our students and families — it represents a renewed commitment to our students, our families, and our community. Together, we will build on the accomplishments of the past while creating new opportunities for every child to succeed.
